Master and PhD Scholarships, King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, Saudi Arabia

 KFUPM currently offers 32 Master Programs and 11 Doctorate Programs in 27 different disciplines.
Introduction
We welcome outstanding and talented prospective graduate students from around the nation and the world to apply for Graduate Studies. Besides national students, KFUPM currently has international graduate students from 28 different nationalities. This adds to the richness & diversity of the academic and research environment at KFUPM.
The University currently offers 32 Master programs and 11 Doctoral programs in a full range of traditional disciplines, as well as interdisciplinary programs that anticipate market trends and respond to national needs. Online Application
All graduate admissions are administered by the Deanship of Graduate Studies (DGS). Candidates who intend to enroll in graduate programs at the University need to submit an online application available on the website of DGS on the link http://www1.kfupm.edu.sa/gs/application/preonline.asp . The online application is available only during the application periods according to the posted application deadlines on the link http://www1.kfupm.edu.sa/gs/main/deadlines.asp . The graduate admission is open twice a year for the two semesters: The Fall Term (usually starting in September) and the Spring Term (usually starting in February).
After submission of the online application, mandatory documents need to be uploaded through the Upload System using the same Login ID and PIN created for the online application using this link: http://adgs.kfupm.edu.sa/
Mandatory documents for application (without which application will not be processed)
  • Copy of identification (National ID for Saudi nationals / Passport for international applicants / Iqama for residents of Saudi Arabia).
  • Complete official transcripts for BS degree and MS degree (if applying to PhD).
  • Statement-of-Purpose (a one-page essay focusing on career and research goals).
  • Recommendation Letters from 3 Professors through the online recommendation system after submitting the online application.
  • GMAT scores for MBA program (for international applicants).
Other supporting documents (needed for final admission decision)
  • Certificates for BS degree and MS degree (if applying to PhD).
  • TOEFL score (min. is 68 iBT for MS and 79 iBT for PhD).
  • Acceptable GRE General score (min. Quant. is 700, min. Analytical is 3.0).
  • Upon approval, original/certified copies of degree certificate(s) and transcript(s) are to be sent through postal mail.

Graduate Scholarships:
Two types of assistantships are offered to enrolled Master students:
  1. Graduate Assistantship: Open to exceptional Saudi Graduate Assistants continuing MS degrees at KFUPM, who display outstanding performance in their Bachelor education.
  2. Research Assistantship: Open to national and international Master students, whose performance is exceptional in their Bachelor education.

Two types of lectureships are offered to enrolled Ph.D. students:
  1. Lecturer: Open to exceptional Saudi Lecturers continuing Ph.D. degrees at KFUPM, who perform excellent in their Bachelor & Master education.
  2. Lecturer-B: Open to national and international exceptional Ph.D. students, whose performance is exceptional in their Bachelor & Master education.

Part-Time Education
Like most reputed international universities, KFUPM also offers this flexible opportunity to working individuals who are interested to pursue higher studies. Such students are charged a modest tuition fee. This prospect is limited to the nationals and residents of the Kingdom.

International Transport Scholarship 2012/13, Institute for Transport Studies, University of Leeds

The International Transport Scholarship 2012/13 will fund the full-fees for an international student to undertake a Masters programme at ITS, on a one year full-time basis.   The scholarship forms part of the ITS mission to advance the understanding of transport globally via the development of skills and best practice.  It is anticipated that the scholarship recipient will return to their home country after the Masters programme, to apply their new skills to an area of identified need.The International Transport Scholarship 2012/13 will fund the full-fees for an international student to undertake a Masters programme at ITS, on a one year full-time basis.   The scholarship forms part of the ITS mission to advance the understanding of transport globally via the development of skills and best practice.  It is anticipated that the scholarship recipient will return to their home country after the Masters programme, to apply their new skills to an area of identified need.

1. Eligibility
a) Applicants must first hold an offer (conditional or unconditional) of an academic place for an ITS Masters degree for the academic year commencing September 2012.
b) Applicants must be designated as ‘international fee status’ by the University of Leeds, and not be domiciled in the UK/EU.
2. Value of the scholarship
The scholarship is a full-fees waiver for the 2012-13 academic year, to the value of £14900.
3. Application process
To apply for the scholarship applicants must:
a) Complete and submit the relevant scholarship application form, to include:
i) a statement of up to 500 words which details how and why a Masters degree from ITS would enable the applicant make a difference to transportation in their country/region, and specifically to tackle a significant problem or issue;
ii) evidence of the applicant’s outstanding ability, achievement and potential;
iii) an outline of the applicant’s career aspirations.
b) Provide a supporting statement from a referee
[the scholarship referee should be additional to the academic referees].
Preference will be given to applicants who are not in receipt of any other scholarship and
would otherwise be precluded from undertaking a Masters programme.
4. Terms and conditions
ITS reserves the right not to make a scholarship award or to offer one or more partial fee waivers;  the scholarship recipient will be expected support the future development and promotion of the scholarship and ITS, by participating in ITS marketing activities; the academic progress of scholarship recipient will be subject to on-going review – ITS reserves the right to withdraw funding at the end of either semester should academic performance be unsatisfactory; the scholarship cannot be deferred and will lapse if not taken up in September 2012.

Miriam Rothschild Scholarship Programme in Conservation Leadership for Developing Countries Students

The MPhil degree in Conservation Leadership is a full-time, one-year, masters course, aimed at graduates of leadership potential with at least three to five years of relevant experience. The unique features of this course are its delivery by a partnership between several university departments and conservation organizations based around Cambridge, and its focus on issues of management and leadership. Consequently, the course aims to deliver a world-class and interdisciplinary education in Conservation Leadership that is not available elsewhere.

The scheme of examination for the 11 month programme for the degree of MPhil in Conservation Leadership consists of:
  • Four essays each of not more than 4,000 words in length, or equivalent exercises. Essay topics and exercises will be selected from a list announced by the Degree Committee for the Faculty of Earth Sciences and Geography.
  • A placement report of not more than 10,000 words in length, on a topic approved by the Degree Committee of the Faculty of Earth Sciences and Geography, and based on work carried out by the candidate in one or more institutions approved by the Degree Committee.
  • Course-work prescribed by the Degree Committee of the Faculty of Earth Sciences and Geography (which may include written work, group work and class participation).
At the discretion of the Examiners, the examination requirements may include an oral examination on any or all of the assessed components of the MPhil. The pass mark is 60% and the mark for a distinction is 75%.
The MPhil in Conservation Leadership is aimed at graduates of any discipline with at least three to five years of relevant professional experience, either in employment or in a voluntary capacity.
Formal applications must be made through the University of Cambridge’s Board of Graduate Studies.

The closing date for applications for those seeking admission in October 2012 is 30th March 2012.
Applicants are encouraged to seek support through the Cambridge Trusts, which offer a range of scholarships to international students. Those seeking support through the Cambridge Trusts should submit their application to the Board of Graduate Studies by 1 December 2011.
In addition to the standard application materials, applicants for the MPhil in Conservation Leadership are required to submit a 750-word statement of purpose, entitled “Why I would like to enrol in the MPhil in Conservation Leadership, and how my background provides the relevant leadership experience for the course”.
Details of the University’s English Language requirements are shown on the Board of Graduate Studies website. It is not necessary to have met these requirements before making an application. However, those who are offered a place subject to certain conditions will need to meet their English Language requirements before they can be admitted. Applicants are encouraged to book their tests, and take any additional lessons early.

PhD Scholarships, Faculty of Law, University of Copenhagen, Denmark

 The Faculty of Law has a number of vacant PhD scholarships available from September 2012.
All research projects within the discipline of Legal Science are considered. However, the faculty will give priority to applications within the research areas of the Faculty´s nine research centres. Applicants are allowed to apply for project topic within other areas of Legal Science than offered by research centres. If you wish to prepare and apply for a project topic, which is not offered please click on the heading ” Other Porjects”.
The purpose of the Faculty´s PhD Programme is both to prepare the student for a continuing career in legal research and teaching and to educate highly qualified labour relevant to both the public and private sectors. The degree assures research qualifications at an international level.
Qualifications
  • Applicants must have an educational background that corresponds to the Danish LL.M.-degree or equivalent qualifications.
  • Students who are expecting to graduate this term and are awaiting the evaluation of their dissertation may apply.
  • Applicants must as far as possible document an aptitude for scientific work, for instance through a high assessment of their dissertations and must also be able to undertake the highly demanding task of independently writing a PhD dissertation.
During the 3-year PhD Programme you are required to
  • Participate in research environments outside the Faculty of Law – usually through study periods abroad. Take part in international conferences, courses and meetings.
  • Complete the Faculty´s PhD study Programme – some travelling including to international conferences, courses, and meetings should be expected.
  • Teach – typically bachelor or master courses.
  • Undertake independent research (making of PHD thesis) under supervision.

  1. A motivated application must specify the scientific reasons in favour for accepting this particular research programme at the Faculty of Law, University of Copenhagen
  2. A Curriculum Vitae
  3. Diploma of your qualifying degree and marking transcripts (translated into English, Danish, Swedish or Norwegian)
  4. A description of the research proposal (5 to max 10 pages)

Terms of employment
Employment will take place according to the agreement between The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations and the Ministry of Finance about the salary of PhD Students. Furthermore, there will be a personal pension bonus corresponding to the difference between the seniority increment received as a principal according to the new wage system for academics on a group contract basis and the pay of a PhD student. Normally, the scholarship cannot be extended.

Master Scholarship in Water Resources Management by ICE WaRM, Australia

ICE WaRM offers a scholarship programme to attract high quality international students to education and training in water resources management, delivered by ICE WaRM partner institutions.
The ICE WaRM scholarship programme aims to:
  • provide high calibre students with the opportunity to study with ICE WaRM partners to further their knowledge;
  • provide students with the opportunity to participate in research and advance their scientific knowledge in water resources management;
  • encourage the exchange of ideas on best practice within water-related fields;
  • provide students with the opportunity to participate in presentations, conferences, seminars and forums on contemporary issues in water resources management;
  • provide the opportunity for students from organisations and countries currently facing major water issues to participate in programmes which they may not be able to fund; and
  • demonstrate a commitment to cultural change and diversity and the international sharing of knowledge and skills related to water resources management.
SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION CLOSING DATES

NOTES:

SCHOLARSHIP FUNDING
ICE WaRM offers full and partial scholarships toward the cost of the programme (fee tuition). For international students the fully funded scholarship is AUD$40,000 and partially funded scholarship is AUD$20,000*.
There are two types of Australia Awards: the Endeavour Awards administered by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) and the international development awards administered by the Australia Agency for International Development (AusAID). Both programs are providing opportunities to study in Australia for International Students.

UCL-AET Undergraduate Scholarships for Africans 2012 – 2013

 African students interested in undergraduate study at the University College London (UCL) are invited to apply for a scholarship available through collaboration with the Africa Educational Trust (AET) to enable students from Africa, who are financially unable to study in the UK, to pursue full-time undergraduate studies at UCL. With this scheme, UCL supports the aims of AET to help the people of Africa to help themselves.
Under the scheme, two full bursaries are available annually for AET-nominated students who have accepted offers of places at UCL.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:
  • be a national of any African country (including Madagascar), currently living in an African country, and have one or both parents living in an African country, or are orphaned; AND
  • be currently attending school or have recently completed school in an African country; AND
  • have before or by January applied to UCAS for admission to a full-time undergraduate degree programme of study at UCL starting the following September, which they intend firmly to accept UCL (as the insurance offer choice does not satisfy the conditions of the bursary); AND
  • be liable to pay tuition fees at the rate applicable to Overseas students, as assessed by UCL; AND
  • lack the financial means necessary to pursue undergraduate degree studies at UCL
  • citizens of South Sudan are strongly encouraged to apply for this scholarship.
Selection Criteria
Scholarships are awarded on financial hardship and academic merit, based on the aims of the scholarship.
Worth and Duration of Scholarship
  • Each bursary consists of full tuition fees and a maintenance allowance for the duration of the student’s programme of study, as well as economy air travel to/from the UK at the beginning and end of the bursary-holder’s degree programme
  • In addition, the bursary includes an allowance (on request and up to a specified maximum sum per bursary holder) to permit two members of the bursary-holder’s family to attend their graduation ceremony
  • Annual renewal of the bursary is subject to good academic progress by the student.

How to Apply
  • First apply for UCL undergraduate admission through UCAS by January 2012
  • If you fulfill ALL the eligibility requirements above, please email Ms May Omona at m.omona@africaeducationaltrust.org with details of your financial circumstances, your academic history, and proof that you have applied to UCAS for undergraduate admission to UCL
  • If you have not applied to UCAS for admission to study at UCL and cannot provide a valid UCAS application number, you need not apply for a bursary; your application is incomplete without a valid UCAS application number
  • AET will provide eligible applicants with an electronic application form, which must be completed and submitted electronically to Ms May Omona at m.omona@africaeducationaltrust.org by 15 March. Late applications cannot be considered for funding
  • AET will select 10 applicants from eligible applications received – with attention to the financial circumstances of the applicants. The 10 short-listed applicants will be contacted by AET in April (by email), and asked to write and submit a 500-word essay on a topic set each year by UCL. Shortlisted applicants will also be required to submit documentation as proof of the information provided in the application form
  • Essays and supporting documentation to complete the application must reach AET by 15 April. Candidates who fail to provide essay and/or documentation are excluded from the competition.
Selection Procedure
  • AET will send to UCL complete applications including essays and supporting documentation by 29 April
  • UCL will select the academically most promising candidates, and also identify a number of reserve candidates
  • Conditional scholarship offers (and reserve notifications) will be issued in June/July, pending selected candidates’ full admission to UCL, and upon candidates’ firm acceptance of their admissions offers
  • Final confirmation of funding is made once the candidates have met the conditions of and firmly accepted their admissions offers.
Notification of Results
Successful applicants and reserve candidates can expect to be contacted by UCL in June/July.
Note: Remember to read the admission guidelines at UCL carefully so that your application can be successful. You cannot be awarded a scholarship if you do not qualify for admission.

International Master in Quaternary and Prehistory (IMQP), Erasmus Mundus

 The International Master in Quaternary and Prehistory (IMQP) lasts two years. It is formed of a partnership of six HEIs with multi-annual experience in prehistoric research and formation: Università degli Studi di Ferrara (Italy, coordinator), Muséum National d`Histoire naturelle (France, partner), Universitat Rovira i Virgili (Spain, partner), Instituto Politecnico of Tomar (Portugal, partner), Universidade de Tras-os-Montes and Alto Douro (Portugal, partner) and University of the Philippines Diliman (Philippines, partner).
The main subjects of the IMQP educational program are the following: prehistory, anthropology, human palaeontology, chronology, evolution of fauna and flora, archaeometry and Quaternary geology. The main objective of the Master is to provide an essential knowledge on Prehistory and Quaternary geology by adopting an interdisciplinary approach and exploiting the scientific specialities of each partner Institution.
The IMQP master award a JOINT DEGREE signed by all Partners Institutions (UNIFE, URV, MNHN, IPT & UTAD). The students can also ask for a national degree awarded by the first hosting institution. The officials languages of the joint degree are Italian and French.
Admission criteria
For all partner Institutions the same procedures for application and selection criteria for the admission to the Master Degree will be valid. Students from at least 3 year university courses can be admitted. These courses have to be legally acknowledged with university degree or similar qualifications within archeology, literature, prehistory, paleontology, Quaternary`s geology, natural and environmental science, biology and geology, technology and cultural heritage preservation, education and tourism science.
Partner institutions are engaged in the acknowledgment of degrees of Third Countries` candidates according to the rules in force. Selections and applications, carried out at each partner institution`s with common agreed procedures, are consequently acknowledged by other participants to the Master Degree.
Students selected by partner University will be admitted to the Master Degree at the origin University and at Ferrara University, administrative center of the course.The application forms for the scholarships for third country students are published on this sites 4 months before the closing date of the call.
Erasmus Mundus (Quaternary and Prehistory – IMQP) Scholarship
The scholarships will be awarded as follows:
Category A – no. 6 scholarships awarded to masters students selected by EMMC consortia who come from a country other than an eligible applicant country and who are not residents nor have carried out their main activity (studies, work, etc.) for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years in one of these countries. No. 1 scholarship awarded to masters students selected by EMMC consortia who come from Western Balkans and Turkey.
Category B – no. 4 scholarships awarded to any masters students selected by EMMC consortia and who do not fulfill the Category A criteria defined above.
Category A scholarships can be awarded to masters students selected by EMMC consortia who come from a country other than an eligible applicant country and who are not residents nor have carried out their main activity (studies, work, etc.) for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years in one of these countries.
Category B scholarships can be awarded to any masters students selected by EMMC consortia and who do not fulfil the Category A criteria defined above.

International Master Scholarship in Law, University of Sydney, Australia

 Eligibility: Applicants must:
  • Have accepted an unconditional offer of admission to a Master’s by Coursework program.
  • Have a minimum IELTS or equivalent for the Master’s by Coursework: 7.0 IELTS with no band below 6.0;
  • Be a citizen of a country other than Australia or New Zealand, and may not hold permanent residency in Australia.
Conditions of Award: The Sydney Law School Foundation International Scholarship is worth AU$10,000 payable in two equal instalments in late March and late August in the first year of study.
Commencement of Degree: Scholarships are awarded on the basis that the student will commence study in the academic year for which it is offered, and for the program in which a place has been offered in the Sydney Law School.
Duration: The scholarship is limited to one year.
Leave: Scholarship holders may in special circumstances take leave of absence from their scholarship for a maximum of one semester. Students must check their visa conditions before applying for leave; and they must apply for permission in advance of taking such leave. Requests to hold the scholarship part-time will only be approved under exceptional circumstances, such as a medical condition, which limits the student’s capacity to undertake full-time study. Such requests must be submitted in writing to the Sydney Law School.
Transferring Scholarships: These scholarships cannot be transferred from one institution to another. Nor from the Sydney Law School to another faculty in the University of Sydney.
Termination of Scholarships: Scholarships will be terminated:
  • if the student fails to meet the eligibility requirements
  • if the student fails to make satisfactory progress in the program
  • when the student ceases to be enrolled as a full-time student, or discontinues their study
  • if the University determines that the student is guilty of serious misconduct, including, but not limited to, having provided false or misleading information
  • if the student does not resume study at the end of a period of approved leave
  • if the student is granted permanent residency in Australia. Students must immediately advise the International Office and the Faculty Office about any changes to their visa status

100 Elite Research Scholarships, University of Tasmania, Australia

Scholarship value/inclusions:
There are two possible UTS amounts for one year study programmes and two for two year study programmes. The student can only chose and apply for one of these. The amounts stated are given per year of study.
The scholarship amounts from which the student will chose by application are:

20.000 € one year master programme

12.500 € two year master programme

10.000 € one year master programme
Exception on these amounts are made for the two year study programme Philosophy of Science, Technology and Society, a non-technical study, for which the following scholarship amounts to be chosen from: large scholarship = 20.000 € small = 10.000 €
Eligibility/Application Requirements:
To qualify for a UTS, candidates must fulfill the following requirements:
- Have been admitted to one of the above mentioned graduate programmes at University of Twente before December 15 for round 1 or March 15 for round 2
- Have graduated with excellent results in their (under-)graduate programme, where excellency is based on overall CGPA
-   Comply with the overall English language test norm Academic IELTS 6.5 (or TOEFL iBT of 90) and an additional 6.0 (TOEFL iBT 20) on the subscore of speaking skills
-  Have the nationality from a non-EU/EEA country and not being eligible for a Dutch study grant
-   Have finished a possible pre-master at the University of Twente
-  Students who are not directly admitted to a master, but will start a ‘pre-master’ programme can already apply for a UTS. If they do not finish the pre-master with a CGPA of 7,5 out of 10, they cannot be granted UTS. They must also comply with above mentioned requirements for UTS, including English language test scores.
Application instructions:
Please note that you can only be nominated for the UT Scholarship after you have been (provisionally) accepted by the educational programme of your choice.  Read the application instructions for admissions (link to application form is found here).
You cannot apply for the UT Scholarship yourself. You can only be nominated by the faculty of the university for a UT Scholarship between October 2010 and May 2011. After being admitted to the University, the faculty may decide to nominate you for the scholarship. In that case, the faculty will contact you to confirm your interest in the scholarship. The deadline for admissions is 15 March 2012 for study in September 2012.
