The MPhil degree in Conservation Leadership is a full-time, one-year, masters course, aimed at graduates of leadership potential with at least three to five years of relevant experience. The unique features of this course are its delivery by a partnership between several university departments and conservation organizations based around Cambridge, and its focus on issues of management and leadership. Consequently, the course aims to deliver a world-class and interdisciplinary education in Conservation Leadership that is not available elsewhere.

The MPhil in Conservation Leadership is aimed at graduates of any discipline with at least three to five years of relevant professional experience, either in employment or in a voluntary capacity.
Formal applications must be made through the University of Cambridge’s Board of Graduate Studies.

In addition to the standard application materials, applicants for the MPhil in Conservation Leadership are required to submit a 750-word statement of purpose, entitled “Why I would like to enrol in the MPhil in Conservation Leadership, and how my background provides the relevant leadership experience for the course”.
Details of the University’s English Language requirements are shown on the Board of Graduate Studies website. It is not necessary to have met these requirements before making an application. However, those who are offered a place subject to certain conditions will need to meet their English Language requirements before they can be admitted. Applicants are encouraged to book their tests, and take any additional lessons early.

- Four essays each of not more than 4,000 words in length, or equivalent exercises. Essay topics and exercises will be selected from a list announced by the Degree Committee for the Faculty of Earth Sciences and Geography.
- A placement report of not more than 10,000 words in length, on a topic approved by the Degree Committee of the Faculty of Earth Sciences and Geography, and based on work carried out by the candidate in one or more institutions approved by the Degree Committee.
- Course-work prescribed by the Degree Committee of the Faculty of Earth Sciences and Geography (which may include written work, group work and class participation).
