consider real competition policy cases and how regulation works in several specific sectors. For more information, please download the academic calendar.

Students are strongly advised to take the Math and Statistics review course and the Computer Tools course offered in September. More information is available on the MCMR courses page.

    Credits
The degree requires the successful completion of 60 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) credits of graduate courses (6 credits are equivalent to a 40 hour course), some compulsory and some elective.
The students' final program must be discussed with and approved by their Master Director.

    Grades
The academic performance of each student is reviewed regularly.
Attention is given to the maintenance of normal academic progress, through a combination of formal written examinations and coursework.
Core courses will award grades. Some optional courses may be evaluated on a pass/fail or pass with honors/pass/fail basis.

    Campus
The Competition and Market Regulation Program is located at the Ciutadella campus at Universitat Pompeu Fabra in central Barcelona.
The campus is within walking distance of both the beach and the city's financial, cultural and governmental centers. Students can take advantage of a wide array of services and activities offered by the UPF.

PhD Program in Economics Düsseldorf Graduate School in Economics, Germany

The Düsseldorf Graduate School in Economics (DGSE) offers a new three-year Ph.D. program in Economics. The DGSE and its doctoral program are an initiative of the university’s economics group within the faculty of business and economics. In our program, outstanding students holding a Master’s degree in economics or related fields get intensive training in analytical methods and quantitative
(econometrics and experimental) analysis which prepares them for successful research.

There are two major fields of research, industrial economics and competition policy (mainly represented by members of Düsseldorf Institute for Competition economics, DICE) or international economics and monetary economics. All teaching is in English. The duration of the program is three years with a possible extension for the completion of the dissertation.

Scholarships can be awarded for the entire duration of the program, conditional on academic excellence and study performance and with an option for extensions. The financial assistance is up to 1250 Euro depending on whether your highest previous degree is a bachelor or
master and on the family situation. For the intake in 2012, we are able to offer up to six scholarships.

Application forms, as well as forms for the two required letters of recommendation, are available to download on the Faculty's PhD web page:
    http://www.dice.hhu.de/en/teaching-economics/graduate-school/admission.html

Further information about the DGSE and its Ph.D. program can be found on our website:
    http://www.dice.hhu.de/en/teaching-economics/graduate-school.html .

    Admission

Admission requires a master degree, preferably in economics, business administration, mathematics, statistics, physics or engineering. There are no fixed rules on who will be admitted but the admission is highly competitive. Evidence of creativity and commitment to research will be taken into consideration.

There is only one intake per year, in October. The deadline for applications is 31 March 2012.

The following information is required for an application:

Application Form (please download and fill out the online-form)

This entails your personal data, a short curiculum vitae, as well as short statements explaining your current goals, career plans, reasons for being interested in the PhD program in Economics, as well as discuss your study plans and your fields of interest. Your statements should be in English and not exceed the provided space.

    Certificates and transcripts of grades

A transcript from each college or university is required. The degree certificate is not sufficient. The transcript should show courses, grades and degrees received, mentioning rank or distinction if applicable. A translation is required for any transcript in a language other than English or German. At this stage of the application process it is not necessary to notarize or apostil the translations. If you are accepted we need notarized translations. An apostille is not necessary. If you have not yet finished your current degree, please attach a preliminary grade report (again in English or German).

Letters of recommendation (please download and fill out the online-form)

Two letters of recommendation are required from faculty who are able to assess your academic ability and potential.

The second semester on core subjects will be spent in Kalsruhe. The third specialization semester is proposed as a choice (restricted to conditions based on the marks obtained during the 1st semester) between the three institutions: Marseille (imaging : biophotonics / biomedical optics / astronomy), Karlsruhe (photonic materials and devices / nanobiology / optical engineering), and Barcelona (quantum optics / nanophotonics / optical engineering). The last semester is dedicated to the master thesis and summer school.
This program is dedicated to students with background in Physics or Engineering, who will receive a multiple master diploma awarded from the universities where they spent their semesters. The teaching language is primarily English, although some lectures can be given in the local languages supported by training.
