UNAOC support for Youth-led NGOs to attend the Youth Event at Bali, Indonesia

The United Nations Alliance of Civilization (UNAOC) invites youth around the globe to participate in Youth Event to take place on 28 August 2014.

Topic: The Role of Youth in Promoting ‘Unity in Diversity’ through EducationMedia, and Migration

Total 100 youth (60 international and 40 Indonesian) from diverse cultural and religious background will be selected to participate in the youth event. The participants will join political and corporate leaders, civil society activists, representatives’ of faith communities, journalists and others in the 6th Forum of the United Nations Alliance of Civilization to be held on 29 and 30 August 2014 in Bali, Indonesia.  Theme of the forum is Unity in Diversity: Celebrating Diversity for Common and Shared Values.The UNAOC covers airfare (international or domestic as per the participant), accommodation, food and local transportation (shuttle bus) of the youth participants.

Eligibility Criteria
§  Applicants must be in between 18 and 30 years of age at the time of youth event.
§  Applicants must be the members of non-government and non-for-profit youth-led organizations working for the benefit of youth, or have experience in youth activities.
§  Applicants must have good command over English language.

THE KNIGHT-MOZILLA FELLOWSHIPS

The centerpiece of the OpenNews program, the Knight-Mozilla Fellowships embed developers and technologists in newsrooms around the world to spend a year writing code in collaboration with reporters, designers, and newsroom developers. Fellows work in the open by sharing their code and their discoveries on the web, helping to strengthen and build journalism's toolbox.

The Knight-Mozilla Fellows are able to experience the day-to-day energy of some of the best newsrooms in the world. Being present as news breaks, writing code for the day's headlines, and taking a step back to solve real-world journalistic problemsets, the Knight-Mozilla Fellows' work is as real-world as it gets.

Knight-Mozilla Fellows share the work they're doing with the world outside of the newsroom. By blogging their experiences, pushing code to open repositories, taking part in the OpenNews community calls, and engaging with other developers, the Knight-Mozilla Fellows are helping to spread the code they're making and strengthen the journalism-developer community.

Applicants should be non-Japanese citizens and must have a PhD in the natural sciences awarded on or after January 1, 2007, or expect to be awarded a PhD by the date of hire. Note: Those with PhDs acquired prior to December 31, 2006, may also apply if there was a lapse in their research activity due to the taking of maternity leave, childcare leave, non-research employment at a private corporation, or similar reason, and if subtracting this period of non-research activity will allow them an equivalency that meets the above requirement.Applicants must be able to start working at RIKEN within fiscal year 2013 (April 1, 2013 to March 31, 2014).

Kent Doctoral Scholarships - University of Kent, UK.

Kent Doctoral Scholarships; In preparation for the University’s 50th anniversary in 2015, Kent has established 100 doctoral scholarships to be awarded annually from 2012.
Known as Kent’s 50th Anniversary Scholars, successful candidates will demonstrate academic excellence and outstanding research potential. Scholarships will be offered at the standard UK Research Councils’ rate.

Candidates must hold a good Honours degree (First or 2i) or a Master’s degree at merit or distinction in a relevant subject or equivalent.The scholarship competition is open to all postgraduate research applicants. UK, EU and overseas (international students) fee paying students are invited to apply.

Applications Open for Cambridge University Masters Programme in Conservation Supported by UNEP

Two scholarship programmes have been generously established to support students from less developed and developing countries that are rich in biodiversity, to attend the MPhil in Conservation Leadership during the academic year 2012-2013. The Miriam Rothschild Scholarship Programme in Conservation Leadership is generously supported by Arcadia. Additional scholarships are available as a result of support from another donor.

The number and size of the scholarships varies from full scholarships, to partial scholarships that cover specific aspects of the funding package required by students. Offers of scholarships will be made competitively based on: academic quality; the motivation and potential of candidates to become conservation leaders; and, the funds applicants already have available for the course.
Students interested in seeking funding support should, if they have not already done so, make a formal application to the Board of Graduate Studies for a place on the course. Such an application will include a written statement of not more than 750 words outlining why the applicant is suited to gain a place on the course. The deadline for applications is 30 March 2012.
In addition, applicants wishing to be considered for funding support should make a financial case outlining the funds that they have available, and any funds that they still require to ensure they can take up their place on the course. This financial case should update any information given in the original application to the Board of Graduate Studies. The financial case should generally not exceed 200 words, and should be sent by email to Emily Chenery [emily.chenery@geog.cam.ac.uk], Programme Administrator, MPhil in Conservation Leadership by 30 March 2012.

Grants for PhD Students University of Deusto, Spain

 The Basque Institute of Competitiveness - University of Deusto (Spain) offers Grants For Doctoral Students. Scholarship / Financial aid: 12.000 Euro awards for each year doctoral fellowships
ABOUT ORKESTRA: The Basque Institute of Competitiveness (Orkestra) is a research institute located in the Basque Country (Spain), founded in 2006 and affiliated with the University of Deusto. Its mission is to engage in the so-called 3'is of the Institute: Investigation (research) of excellence, specialized Instruction, and Interaction with the relevant agents of competitiveness - local, regional and national governments, the European Union, firms, and the various intermediary organizations (technology centers, business organizations, cluster associations, etc.) - as a means of strengthening the competitiveness of the Basque economy and society in a globalized environment fully aware of the need to promote sustainable development. The Institute is comprised of approximately 30 researchers and support staff and is currently expanding and reinforcing its areas of focus.

QUALIFICATIONS: Applications are welcome from scholars of all nationalities that are currently undertaking a doctoral degree in the fields of business, energy, economics and public policy. Applicants might be enrolled in the doctoral programme in Competitiveness and Economic Development of the University of Deusto (further information: http://www.deusto.es ), or in a doctoral programme from another Basque, Spanish or international university that enables them to be integrated into the research team of the Basque Institute of Competitiveness (Orkestra) for a period of 1-3 years. The selected student will join one of the Departments of Orkestra in San Sebastian or Bilbao (Spain), where they will develop their research in line with the research lines and projects of that department.

International Students Scholarships Malaysia



The Malaysia International Scholarship (MIS) is an initiative by the Malaysian Government to attract the best brain from around the world to pursue advanced academic studies in Malaysia. This scholarship aims to support Malaysian Government's effort to attract, motivate and retain talented human capital from abroad.



Talented international students with excellent academic records and outstanding co-curricular backgrounds are welcomed to apply for this scholarship and further their studies in any selected and well-established Malaysian public and private universities. This scholarship is divided into two (2) categories of study: Postgraduate and Post-doctoral Studies
Commonwealth Scholarship A panel established by the Ministry  of Higher Education Malaysia will finalizes the selection.

Eligibility

  i. Not be more than 45 years of age during application.




  ii. Obtained a minimum of Second Class Upper (Honours)CGPA of 3.5/4.0 at Bachelor Degree Level for Masters Degree applicants and for PhD candidates must possess CGPA 3.5/4.0 or very good result at Masters degree level in a similar field of intended PhD study. In addition, for post-doctoral programme, the selection will be evaluated based on the number of books produced, refereed/non refereed journals, portfolio and patent copyright. The Post-Doctoral candidate must have excellent reputation in research and possesses knowledge related to the research to be carried out. or a




  iii. Took one of the following English Language Proficiency Test not more than two years before the date of application. The list of tests and minimum scores required:
    - IELTS Academic Test with a score of at least 6.5; or
    - TOEFL paper-based test with a score of at least 580 or computer-based test with a score of at least 230 or internet-based test with a score at least 92.




  iv. In excellent health condition and certified by a Certified Doctor/Medical Professional. The cost of medical examination is to be borne by the applicants




  v. Wrote a proposal that is relevant to the needs and interests of Malaysia (research-based programme only)




  vi. Has applied for and gained admission to postgraduate and post-doctoral studies in Malaysia (conditional letters of offer will be accepted at the time of application or has a confirmation of acceptance or affiliation with the universities in Malaysia).

International Student Scholarship, Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT), Ireland

The International Student Scholarship is available only to international students who are beginning an undergraduate or postgraduate programme at WIT for the first time.
A maximum of ten awards may be made annually, on an ex-quota basis with not more than four new awards being made annually in any one School.

Value
The International Student Scholarship will provide for a reduction in tuition fees of EURO 3,000 for one academic year for Undergraduate progarmmes and one year Higher Diploma programmes and EURO 3,150 for Postgraduate programmes.

The scholarship is available for the following programmes:
  • Undergraduate: Any 3 or 4 years degree programme. Scholarship available for entry into all years of Bachelor programmes except final year.
  • Postgraduate: One year taught master programmes

Eligibility

You must meet all of the following criteria:

  • The scholarships are open to international students only (Non-EU).
  • You intend to enroll on one of the above programmes
  • This is your first undergraduate, higher diploma or postgraduate enrolment at WIT in Ireland
  • You have an average result 75% in previous examinations
  • You have a minimum IELTS score of 6.5 or equivalent.

JSMC - Jena School for Microbial Communication: Fellowship Application

Applicants must have - or be about to - obtain a Master's degree or equivalent (e.g., the German 'Diplom') in Natural Sciences or a related field. Students holding a Bachelor's degree from a research-oriented institution can also be admitted to the program if they have shown outstanding performance (e.g. making a major contribution to a refereed publication).
In general, those welcome to apply will be students with a degree in biology, chemistry, physics, medical sciences, bioinformatics, and earth sciences. Please check whether your research experience matches the open projects on offer during the current Recruitment Call. Applicants should show a strong interest in the JSMC research program centered on the overarching topic "Microbial Communication". They should also be willing to engage enthusiastically in cross-disciplinary projects .
Both German as well as international students are welcome to apply. However, candidates should demonstrate adequate competence in the English language as English is the language of instruction at JSMC.

Recruitment Procedure
Application is only possible online via this website. The JSMC Recruitment is a four-stage process:
Stage 1: Statement of Interest
Please acquaint yourself with the PhD projects offered within the current JSMC Recruitment Call. Download, complete, and submit the "Statement of Interest" form. Please note that applications can only be considered if a completed "Statement of Interest" is received before the deadline.Please be prepared to submit your full application within one week following the deadline for submission of the "Statement of Interest". You may be asked to apply at short notice. However, please DO NOT submit any documents other than the completed "Statement of Interest" form unless you are explicitly invited to do so.
Stage 2: Full Application
Selected applicants will be invited to submit a full application (including CV, college or university credentials, list of theses and publications, passport photo, and letters of reference).
Stage 3: Telephone Interviews
Candidates with adequate qualifications may be asked to participate in a telephone interview for further evaluation.
Stage 4: JSMC Recruitment Meeting
Candidates who succesfully passed the first three selection stages will be invited to attend a JSMC Recruitment Meeting in Jena, Germany. Economy travel and accommodation expenses will be covered by JSMC. Successful candidates will be able to start with their JSMC PhD Fellowship shortly after the Recruitment Meeting (later starting dates can also be arrange
The JSMC Recruitment Meetings are meant as an opportunity for both sides - candidates and JSMC members - to get to know each other. They therefore include various events:
Candidate lectures (the candidates present their research experience in 10+5 min talks)
One-to-one interviews with project supervisors
Visits to Institutes (to get to know the facilities and future colleagues)
Get-together with the current PhD Fellows of JSMC
Joint dinner with project supervisors (to discuss future plans in a relaxed atmosphere)
Guided tour through the town of Jena
