CONFLICT STUDIES: The New Generation of Ideas Ninth Biennial Graduate Student Conference

It is organized by the UMass Boston Graduate Programs in Conflict Resolution, Conflict Studies: The New Generation of Ideas /span brings together graduate students from a variety of fields to present their work and share ideas. Since 1996, graduate students and recent graduates from universities across the United States, Canada, and numerous other countries have gathered in Boston for this biennial event.

In addition to showcasing graduate student papers, the conference will feature keynote addresses by leaders in the field, skill building workshops, and opportunities to network with practitioners, scholars and fellow students.

We are seeking papers on any and all aspects of conflict analysis, resolution, and management. Topics may include, but are not limited to International & Political Conflict, Negotiation & Mediation Practice, Culture and Identity, Media and Conflict, Religion, Education and Youth, Health Care Conflict, Gender and Violence, Conflict Prevention &Transformation, Theory as an Analytical Tool, Conflict Intervention Strategies, Restorative Justice, Organizational Conflict, Human Security and Human Rights, and Democracy, Decentralization, and Divided Societies.
We encourage proposals for papers and panels from as many disciplines as possible.All submissions must be made via the web site here.

We encourage current students and recent graduates [within the last 2 years] of doctoral, masters, law or graduate certificate programs to submit proposals.
Submissions must include:
* a detailed outline or description of your paper, not to exceed 500 words (for review by the Conference Program Committee)
* a summary, not to exceed 75 words (for Conference Brochure)
* biographical information, not to exceed 75 words.
You will be notified (electronically) of acceptance of your proposal by June 9, 2012.
Final papers (not to exceed 1250 words) are required to be submitted by August 15, 2012

University of Alberta Master’s Scholarship, Canada, 2012-2013.

The University of Alberta, Canada, is offering a master’s scholarship to domestic and international students who are being newly admitted into a thesis-based master’s program in the Fall or Winter Term of the competition year. Students who have completed any work in a master’s program are not eligible.

Worth of Scholarship

Offered for one year at a value of $17,000 plus tuition and fees up to the maximum cost for registration in the equivalent of 9 normal credit weights (equivalent to 18 fee index units) in courses or thesis research per term (or Thesis 919) for the first Fall Term and Winter Term of the master’s program. In addition, the department guarantees that a recipient will receive continued funding, from any combination of sources, for year 2 of the master’s program based on the rates for Graduate Assistantship appointments for 12 hours per week non Principal Instructor master’s students.

 How to Apply

There is no application form; eligible students are considered on the recommendation of the admitting department. The Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research makes the final decision. Approximately 20 awards are offered each year. Contact the department for additional information.
