African PhD Students Fellowships - UPEACE-IDRC

The UPEACE Africa Programme is offering a limited number of scholarships to African students in PhD programmes focused in peace and conflict studies.The scholarship will cover tuition, living expenses, communications, access to scholarly materials, and disseminate research findings through publications and conference presentations.
In addition, part of the award may be used to cover expenses related to a semester abroad at a Canadian university. The maximum award is US $15,000 per eligible candidate per year.
The programme is seeking applications from candidates who are currently enrolled in a PhD programme or who can offer proof of acceptance into a PhD Programme at a University in Sub Saharan Africa.

 ELIGIBILITY
 Applicants must:
  • Hold citizenship of an African country in Sub-Saharan Africa;
  • Be enrolled/accepted in a PhD Programme in the field of Governance and Security  Studies in Universities in Sub Saharan Africa;
  • Be a full time PhD student;
  • Submit a letter of support from the Lead Supervisor
  • Undertake the research within Sub-Saharan Africa.
  • Have a Masters Degree in related discipline
  HOW TO APPLY:
Applicants are required to submit the following documents: - 
  1. Completed Check List (signed and dated)
  2. Cover Letter
  3. Application Form
  4. A personal Statement
  5. Curriculum Vitae
  6. Certified Transcripts
  7. Proof of Citizenship
  8. Evidence of enrolment
  9. Two reference Letters (one of which must come from a faculty member with extensive knowledge of applicant’s academic history and performance)
  10.  Approved Research Proposal
  11.  Budget in USD

DEADLINE FOR APPLICATION

  • Complete applications must be received at the Office of the Africa Programme by the deadline. No application will be received after the deadline.
  • Only SHORT-LISTED applicants will be contacted.
  • Short listed applicants will be notified by 15th May 2012.
  • Applicants, who have not been contacted on the notification day, should note that their application was not successful.
