INTRODUCTION
The Green Innovations Bootcamp will be held in Addis Ababa on July 8th-9th 2014. The goal of this two-day bootcamp is to promote green innovations & entrepreneurship, and build bridges between Finnish and Ethiopian startup communities & companies.

UNAOC support for Youth-led NGOs to attend the Youth Event at Bali, Indonesia

The United Nations Alliance of Civilization (UNAOC) invites youth around the globe to participate in Youth Event to take place on 28 August 2014.

Topic: The Role of Youth in Promoting ‘Unity in Diversity’ through EducationMedia, and Migration

Total 100 youth (60 international and 40 Indonesian) from diverse cultural and religious background will be selected to participate in the youth event. The participants will join political and corporate leaders, civil society activists, representatives’ of faith communities, journalists and others in the 6th Forum of the United Nations Alliance of Civilization to be held on 29 and 30 August 2014 in Bali, Indonesia.  Theme of the forum is Unity in Diversity: Celebrating Diversity for Common and Shared Values.The UNAOC covers airfare (international or domestic as per the participant), accommodation, food and local transportation (shuttle bus) of the youth participants.

Eligibility Criteria
§  Applicants must be in between 18 and 30 years of age at the time of youth event.
§  Applicants must be the members of non-government and non-for-profit youth-led organizations working for the benefit of youth, or have experience in youth activities.
§  Applicants must have good command over English language.

Future Climate for Africa (FCFA): Regional Consortium Grants 2014

Outline proposals are invited for a new funding opportunity as part of the Future Climate for Africa (FCFA) research programme funded by the Department for International Development (DFID) and NERC. FCFA is a £20m international, interdisciplinary programme to advance scientific understanding and prediction of African climate variability and change to inform medium-term adaptation decisions (5-40 years), and develop the knowledge, data and tools to better integrate this science into decision making today.
This call is for Regional Consortium Grant outline proposals, which will provide an opportunity for the world's best researchers to undertake large-scale, complex and interdisciplinary natural and social science research addressing the three pillars of FCFA:
  1. World-leading scientific research to advance understanding and prediction of African climate variability and change over medium-term timescales (5 to 40 years)
  2. Interdisciplinary research to support better integration of science into decision making
  3. Pilot studies, co-produced with users, to demonstrate the use of climate information and tools in real decisions.
Proposals are invited for funding of up to £4m full economic cost (FEC) per consortium. This call has a total available budget of £12m. Proposals will be funded for a maximum duration of four years with an expected start date of April 2015.
Proposals are expected to cover all three research pillars of FCFA for a defined region of sub-Saharan Africa and are required to make the case for the geographic region to be addressed in terms of the opportunity to deliver world-leading science and the potential to make clear improvements in the quality and availability of climate information, adding value to existing science and initiatives.
This is a global open call that welcomes international applicants, particularly those based in sub-Saharan Africa. Please see the Announcement of Opportunity for full eligibility criteria.
Submission of an outline proposal is mandatory in order to participate in the funding round at the Full Proposal stage.
All outline proposals will be assessed by an assessment panel and successful applicants will be notified by the end of August 2014 that they are able to proceed to the full proposal stage.
Applicants who are successful at the outline proposal stage, and thus invited to submit a full proposal, will be invited to a virtual workshop. At least one representative from each successful outline proposal will be expected to attend.

Fordham BusinessChallenge 2013



The Fordham Business Challenge 2013 is a scholarship competition organized by Fordham University Graduate School of Business Administration and Student Competitions AB.

The Fordham Business Challenge 2013 consists of (3) multiple-choice question sets and (1) essay question connected to eight (8) Master of Science graduate business degree programs. Winners of the eight competitions will receive a full-tuition scholarship. Second place winners will receive a half-scholarship.

The competition is for 8 full-tuition scholarships and open for applicants WORLDWIDE to study at Fordham Business School in New York City in fall 2013. Prizes valued at over $500,000! Haramaya University Google Apps for Education First Event

As it is recalled, the first Google event, Google Africa Map up Week, at Haramaya University with the theme "Holding Haramaya's Global Presence Online" was held & it went successful- of which the effort contributed from the event participants make a visible change on the Haramaya online presence on  Google maps.

This is a follow up event from the mapping event which is targeted to participate Haramaya University community members to have a good know how on the basic skills, as a preparation for the required skills to use Google apps in education when the Haramaya University deploy them to use in education in the near future. 

The Google Apps for Education event is planned to give a detailed brief and intensive hands on training about the fundamental Google products and/or apps for education; which mainly focused on Gmail, G+, Google Drive and Google Calendar. On this first event about Google Apps for Education, it is planned to train Student Council members, Student Club members, class representatives, departmental secretaries (office managers), instructors and other interested member of the Haramaya University community about Gmail and G+; on how they can utilize the services to the best and use to ease their work via email and creating circles on G+ so as to reach to the larger audience easily and timely to their respective audiences.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Fluency in English.

Holding Haramaya’s Global Presence On-line: Africa Map Up Week Training


Are you exited about mapping? 

Google has included Ethiopian universities this year on its African Universities support Program: where Google plays a role on to tackle communication and knowledge sharing related challenges; and Google Africa has selected student ambassadors from many African universities in 12 countries to work as liaison in between. Google is organizing a mapping week to map Africa and for the Haramaya community to contribute on mapping the Haramaya University and the surrounding, there will be a Google supported ( with T-shirts, internet access and refreshment.)training on Google Map Maker for all interested students, faculty members and residents around Haramaya University (for those who will not attend the training in physical, there will be a video streaming on YouTube) to let the Haramaya community contribute to the generation of local content on Google Map and put the Haramaya presence on-line. The Elsevier Foundation, TWAS, and OWSD Launch Awards Recognizing Women Scientists in Developing Countries




 The Elsevier Foundation, in partnership with the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World (TWAS) and the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD), supports an awards program to recognize talented early-career women scientists in the developing world.

Each year, the program will choose one winner from eligible countries in each of Latin America and the Caribbean; East and Southeast Asia and the Pacific; the Arab region; Central and South Asia; and Sub-Saharan Africa.

The 2013 nominations are for the life sciences (i.e., including the agricultural sciences).  Nominations will be accepted from early-career scientists (within ten years of graduating with a PhD degree) from 81 scientifically-lagging countries.  The list of these countries is linked from the announcement.
Each winner will be celebrated for her research excellence, and receive a cash prize of US$5 thousand.

NRW Research School Biostruct - Heinrich-Heine-Universität: 8 PhD Scholarhips


The NRW Research School BioStruct – Biological Structures in Molecular Medicine and Biotechnology at Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf in Germany, funded by the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Research of the German Federal State North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), invite applications for 8 PhD Scholarships starting June 2012. BioStruct offers innovative education and research programs within a stimulating interdisciplinary environment combining the fields of structural biology, molecular medicine and biotechnology.

Application for BioStruct PhD scholarships is open to excellent candidates holding a MSc or Diploma degree in the fields of Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry or related.
All BioStruct Applicants are expected to have achieved excellent results in their graduation and to show a high motivation and commitment for PhD studies in biostructural research applied to molecular medicine or biotechnology. To be considered applicants must have submitted a complete application prior to the Actual Submission Deadline and must be fluent in written and spoken English and/or German language. 
Underlying Selection Criteria
 for successful candidates are
  • excellent academic and personal achievements of the applicant, evident from transcripts and other application documents,

The Biostruct scholarship:

Successful applicants are awarded with a monthly stipend of 1345,- EUR. The BioStruct PhD Scholarship is additionally funded with contributions to travel expenses of up to 1260,- EUR per year and contributions to research expenses of up to 15.000,- EUR per year.

The University of Western Australia Scholarships for International Students

Any Masters or PhD degree by research offered by the University of Western Australia. It is essential that you contact the individual School or Centre in which you are interested in undertaking research. The School must be able to confirm that your proposed research topic is in an area of research strength which is well supported by external research funding. They must also be able to provide appropriate expertise and supervision for your project. See the list of Faculties, Schools and Centres or see the Graduate Research Coordinators. You must have agreement from a prospective supervisor in the School or Centre in which you intend to enroll at the time you submit your online scholarship application.
Scholarship value/inclusions:
Tuition Fee Scholarship, Fortnightly Stipend and Health Insurance worth $27228 per annum is covered by the IPRS Scholarships. A SIRF scholarship covers the cost of international tuition fees, and required health insurance premiums for the awardee only
Eligibility:
IPRS and SIRF Scholarships will only be available to those applicants who:
• Have completed a four year undergraduate degree at first-class honours level or equivalent. An applicant may be disadvantaged if the Scholarships Committee cannot make a comparison with The University of Western Australia’s standards, particularly in relation to the class of Honours achieved, ie first or second class Honours;
• Intend to enroll as a full-time candidate for a Master’s degree by research or a PhD degree;
• Will be commencing their course in the semester following the scholarship round in which they have successfully applied;
• Provide evidence of achieving English language proficiency to the following standards:
•  IELTS SCORE OF 6.5, with speaking and listening no less than 6.0 and with reading and writing no less than 6.5;
•  Paper-based TOEFL score of 580 or above (Computer-based TOEFL test is not acceptable) with a Test of Spoken English score of 45 and a TWE (Test of Written English) of 4.5;
• iBT TOEFL internet-based test score of 95 with 22 for reading and listening, 24 for speaking and 23 for writing;
•  Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English: C grade;
•  Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English: B grade;
•  UWA CELT Bridging Program – ‘B+’ grade or above
All English test results must normally have been obtained within the last two years.
The following applicants will be ineligible for a scholarship under the SIRF scheme:
• International applicants who have already obtained a PhD degree or equivalent.
• International applicants who have already obtained a Master’s degree by research and are applying to undertake another Master’s degree by research.
•  International applicants are not eligible for an IPRS awards if they have already commenced the degree for which they are seeking an award, unless they can establish that they were unable to apply for an award in the previous calendar year. Students who have already enrolled are eligible for the SIRF awards.
• International applicants who have not provided evidence of their English language proficiency meeting or exceeding the standards listed above and in the application form.
• Australian and New Zealand citizens or permanent residents.
Important Note: There is no age restriction.
Application instructions:
When you apply for an IPRS, you are automatically considered for the award of a SIRF scholarship. You do not apply for a Masters by Research or Phd study place or candidature separately as this is included in your scholarship application.   If you applied for, or did so previously, a full-fee place to the UWA International Centre, you must advise the Graduate Research and Scholarships Office.
