• Climate change and water

Applicants must be nationals of developing countries and priority will be given to students from Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Small Island Developing States (SIDS). With a value of up to USD 20,000 per year, each award will be given for a period of one year and is renewable once,  subject  to  satisfactory  progress  during  the  period  of  study  and  term reports signed by the research supervisor.  Applications will undergo a two-level selection process. IPCC scientific experts will first assess the applications in an initial review and the IPCC Science Board will then review the applications
and make a final selection.  The candidates selected for an award will be notified individually during the second quarter of 2013.

The IPCC Scholarship Programme was established with the funds received from the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize. The IPCC Scholarship Programme benefits from the support of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation. Students interested in applying for an IPCC scholarship can download application forms HERE

Are you a high performing African entrepreneur with a track record of business excellence and high social impact? Do you share our core belief that business is development and that entrepreneurship is the key to Africa’s economic resurgence? Do you see yourself as an icon of entrepreneurial success in Africa? If so, then this year’s African Awards for Entrepreneurship may bear your name!

The Africa Awards for Entrepreneurship (AAE), indubitably 'the Oscars' of business and entrepreneurship in Africa, is pleased to announce the 2012 Awards Programme. African Leadership Network (ALN), the premier network of Africa's new generation of leaders, is pleased to partner with Legatum Group, a leading Private Equity firm and previous hosts, to bring you the Awards this year. As in previous years, the programme will recognize and award exceptional entrepreneurial leaders who serve as role models to Africa's aspiring entrepreneurs and who demonstrate business excellence, innovation and profitability.

Aside from the generous prize money, theincredibly high beam of spotlight provided by the Awards, as well as the unrivalled access to a network of top entrepreneurs and funding resources, has spurred previous winners unto even more glorious heights in their respective industries.

Unlike in past years when the AAE was limited to only enterprises with revenues from US$ 1M to US$ 15M, this year, entrepreneurs with a range of business sizes from as small as US$ 500k to as much as US$ 50M or more in revenue may apply for the Awards. World Food Day poster contest for young people (5-17 years old)

Here’s a great opportunity to use your imagination and artistic talent: enter the first-ever international World Food Day poster contest for young people !

The theme of the 2012 poster contest is

"Agricultural cooperatives – key to feeding the world"

A cooperative is a business that balances two goals – making money and keeping its members and communities happy by providing what they need. Imagine a group of people working together to grow vegetables or fruit, to fish together or simply to sell something collectively. By joining forces, members of a cooperative can benefit by sharing materials, experience or other resources. They can also bargain in a more powerful way.
If you’ve ever been part of a team, you know something about cooperation. When you work together as a team, you can achieve things that would otherwise be unachievable. This is why we are featuring cooperatives as an effective way of producing, processing, marketing and even buying food.
In the world today, an estimated one billion people are members of some kind of cooperative. Your own parents or neighbors might belong to a co-op.
To learn more about co-ops, explore the materials on these web pages and watch the theme video.  Then check out the Poster contest rules and start designing your poster.  We hope you all enjoy discovering the power of cooperatives and we look forward to receiving your entry!
The World Food Day team.

Climate Change Conference Fellowships for Journalists

The Fellowships are open predominantly to journalists from developing countries, but journalists from the US and Russia are also welcome to apply.
Formed in 2007 by Internews’ Earth Journalism Network (EJN), Panos London and the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED), the CCMP has brought developing country journalists to the annual UN climate summits for the past five years.
This has enabled them to cover the summit for their home media organizations, work with experienced and knowledgeable journalists from around the world, and gain a multifaceted understanding of climate change's global impact.
Numerous regional organizations also play a supporting role in the partnership. As part of the fellowships, the CCMP will cover travel, lodging and daily subsistence expenses, arrange press accreditation at COP18, and provide other support services.
The Fellows will benefit from a series of specially designed activities, including an orientation session, breakfast briefings, a field trip and a media clinic.

Eligiblity :
  • A journalist from the developing world, USA or Russia
  • Able to illustrate passion and commitment to reporting on climate change issues
  • Able to travel to Doha, Qatar to arrive no later than 29th November 2012 and leave no later than 8thDecember 2012
  • Have proven support from an editor, producer or supervisor

The CCMP fully respects the editorial independence of all journalists.
Throughout the conference, Fellows are free to report as they see fit.
As well as the requirements above we ask that journalists agree to provide copies or summaries of all the stories they file during COP18 for posting on our websites and that they show collegial attitude towards other Fellows.
One of the main benefits of this program will be the opportunity for Fellows to exchange views and information with their journalistic peers from around the world.
Criteria for evaluating applicants will include the prospective Fellow's demonstrated interest in climate change issues; their audience; and the ability of the Fellowship to provide an opportunity for those journalists who might not otherwise have a chance to cover such events.
Fellows represent a diverse range of experience and regions, though a primary goal of this program is to reach audiences – particularly marginalized communities –who are currently underserved when it when it comes to climate information.
At the moment, the CCMP has funding to bring a small number of Fellows, but is actively working to increase support in order to increase those numbers. In addition to selecting the initial slate of Fellows, targeted to be announced in September a waitlist will also be created to select additional journalists if more funding becomes available.
