Ann Stroud Memorial Scholarship for Postgraduate Students


The Ann Stroud Memorial Scholarship was established to support young African researchers in stepping beyond disciplinary boundaries or professional standards that limit the ability of research to serve rural African communities.
This scholarship is for postgraduate students wishing to conduct their thesis research in collaboration with World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) scientists. The scholarship is tenable at any university in Eastern Africa (countries such as Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi, Ethiopia, and Rwanda). The upper limit for the support is USD 5,000 to cover field research and thesis production.
Eligibility
  • Be a national of Eastern Africa involved in agroforestry research, education or development.
  • Candidates must be 35 years of age or less.
  • Be registered for a postgraduate degree at a recognized university (evidence required).
  • Have completed or be close to completing coursework for the graduate degree for which s/he is registered.
Conditions
  • It is assumed that candidates will have other grants to meet their tuition and other expenses related to the studies.
  • The grant will be used to cover expenses arising from field research (including travel), laboratory analysis and thesis production.
  • The thesis research will be jointly supervised by the university where the applicant is registered and ICRAF . Each institution will appoint a suitable senior scientist as supervisor.
  • Supervisors will receive a travel grant (where justified) to meet once. The travel grant shall not exceed USD 1,500. This shall be additional to the USD 5,000 given to the student.
  • Applicants will strictly abide by World Agroforestry Centre Policy Guidelines on Research Ethics.
Selection process
All applications should be sent to the address below. The selection process involves announcements, proposal review, and selection of grantees by a small panel of World Agroforestry Centre senior staff.
Requirements
  1. Filled in an application form.
  2. A letter of recommendation from employer/ institution.
  3. A three-page concept note (relevant to the proposal guidelines criteria identified below).
  4. Certified copies of certificates
  5. Up-to-date CV
  6. Two recent passport size photographs
  7. Evidence of registration for a Masters Degree course
Proposal guidelines criteria
  • Research derives from the expressed needs of poor farmers and resource users and in turn empowers them to make the decisions that matter to them.
  • It should aim to achieve "triple wins" to livelihoods, equity, and the environment.
  • Projects seek to enhance synergies between two or more disciplines (preferably linking the social and biophysical sciences), levels of analysis and intervention (from community level upwards), or strategies (technological, policy, social and/or market innovations).
  • Work challenges the status quo in thinking, policy and/or practice.
  • Projects incorporate action research and/or seek to address problems in innovative ways.

International Students Scholarships Malaysia



The Malaysia International Scholarship (MIS) is an initiative by the Malaysian Government to attract the best brain from around the world to pursue advanced academic studies in Malaysia. This scholarship aims to support Malaysian Government's effort to attract, motivate and retain talented human capital from abroad.



Talented international students with excellent academic records and outstanding co-curricular backgrounds are welcomed to apply for this scholarship and further their studies in any selected and well-established Malaysian public and private universities. This scholarship is divided into two (2) categories of study: Postgraduate and Post-doctoral Studies
Commonwealth Scholarship A panel established by the Ministry  of Higher Education Malaysia will finalizes the selection.

Eligibility

  i. Not be more than 45 years of age during application.




  ii. Obtained a minimum of Second Class Upper (Honours)CGPA of 3.5/4.0 at Bachelor Degree Level for Masters Degree applicants and for PhD candidates must possess CGPA 3.5/4.0 or very good result at Masters degree level in a similar field of intended PhD study. In addition, for post-doctoral programme, the selection will be evaluated based on the number of books produced, refereed/non refereed journals, portfolio and patent copyright. The Post-Doctoral candidate must have excellent reputation in research and possesses knowledge related to the research to be carried out. or a




  iii. Took one of the following English Language Proficiency Test not more than two years before the date of application. The list of tests and minimum scores required:
    - IELTS Academic Test with a score of at least 6.5; or
    - TOEFL paper-based test with a score of at least 580 or computer-based test with a score of at least 230 or internet-based test with a score at least 92.




  iv. In excellent health condition and certified by a Certified Doctor/Medical Professional. The cost of medical examination is to be borne by the applicants




  v. Wrote a proposal that is relevant to the needs and interests of Malaysia (research-based programme only)




  vi. Has applied for and gained admission to postgraduate and post-doctoral studies in Malaysia (conditional letters of offer will be accepted at the time of application or has a confirmation of acceptance or affiliation with the universities in Malaysia).

Google Student Ambassador Programme


Are you technically savvy and thrilled by new technology? Are you enthusiastic about Google products? Are you knowledgeable about your school and motivated to bring new opportunities to your peers? Do your friends call you a natural leader? If so, the Google Campus Ambassador role may be a perfect fit for you!The Google Campus Ambassador Programme is an opportunity for you to be a liaison between Google and your university. Ambassadors plan and host a few events during the school year, introduce students to new Google products and features, and act as a campus contact for Google teams.

Ambassadors may:
  • Work closely with local Google teams
  • Host and organize events to bring awareness to Google's products and brand
  • Spread the word about competitions, bootcamps, scholarships and other opportunities
  • Attend Google events as a Google representative
  • Help Google to better understand your campus' culture
  • Build relationships on campus with faculty and student groups
  • Test products and features
  • Promote product use and new product launches to students
  • Be a source of knowledge for your university about Google products
  • Spread Google goodwill to your fellow students
