Postdoctoral Research for Foreign Applicants at RIKEN, 2013 Japan

Eligibility:
Applicants should be non-Japanese citizens and must have a PhD in the natural sciences awarded on or after January 1, 2007, or expect to be awarded a PhD by the date of hire. Note: Those with PhDs acquired prior to December 31, 2006, may also apply if there was a lapse in their research activity due to the taking of maternity leave, childcare leave, non-research employment at a private corporation, or similar reason, and if subtracting this period of non-research activity will allow them an equivalency that meets the above requirement.Applicants must be able to start working at RIKEN within fiscal year 2013 (April 1, 2013 to March 31, 2014).

Description: RIKEN will invite as Foreign Postdoctoral Researchers foreign scientists who have demonstrated creative and innovative ideas. The intent of this program is to have these scientists contribute to the advancement of RIKEN’s research, and to lay the foundations for a truly global RIKEN that actively encourages foreign participation in its activities. By inviting researchers from other countries, RIKEN hopes to achieve a stimulating research environment that transcends national boundaries, and to thereby become a global leader of scientific endeavor.

JSMC - Jena School for Microbial Communication: Fellowship Application

Applicants must have - or be about to - obtain a Master's degree or equivalent (e.g., the German 'Diplom') in Natural Sciences or a related field. Students holding a Bachelor's degree from a research-oriented institution can also be admitted to the program if they have shown outstanding performance (e.g. making a major contribution to a refereed publication).
In general, those welcome to apply will be students with a degree in biology, chemistry, physics, medical sciences, bioinformatics, and earth sciences. Please check whether your research experience matches the open projects on offer during the current Recruitment Call. Applicants should show a strong interest in the JSMC research program centered on the overarching topic "Microbial Communication". They should also be willing to engage enthusiastically in cross-disciplinary projects .
Both German as well as international students are welcome to apply. However, candidates should demonstrate adequate competence in the English language as English is the language of instruction at JSMC.

Recruitment Procedure
Application is only possible online via this website. The JSMC Recruitment is a four-stage process:
Stage 1: Statement of Interest
Please acquaint yourself with the PhD projects offered within the current JSMC Recruitment Call. Download, complete, and submit the "Statement of Interest" form. Please note that applications can only be considered if a completed "Statement of Interest" is received before the deadline.Please be prepared to submit your full application within one week following the deadline for submission of the "Statement of Interest". You may be asked to apply at short notice. However, please DO NOT submit any documents other than the completed "Statement of Interest" form unless you are explicitly invited to do so.
Stage 2: Full Application
Selected applicants will be invited to submit a full application (including CV, college or university credentials, list of theses and publications, passport photo, and letters of reference).
Stage 3: Telephone Interviews
Candidates with adequate qualifications may be asked to participate in a telephone interview for further evaluation.
Stage 4: JSMC Recruitment Meeting
Candidates who succesfully passed the first three selection stages will be invited to attend a JSMC Recruitment Meeting in Jena, Germany. Economy travel and accommodation expenses will be covered by JSMC. Successful candidates will be able to start with their JSMC PhD Fellowship shortly after the Recruitment Meeting (later starting dates can also be arrange
The JSMC Recruitment Meetings are meant as an opportunity for both sides - candidates and JSMC members - to get to know each other. They therefore include various events:
Candidate lectures (the candidates present their research experience in 10+5 min talks)
One-to-one interviews with project supervisors
Visits to Institutes (to get to know the facilities and future colleagues)
Get-together with the current PhD Fellows of JSMC
Joint dinner with project supervisors (to discuss future plans in a relaxed atmosphere)
Guided tour through the town of Jena

Undergraduate Scholarship for International Student, Keele University, UK

 The Keele International Student Scholarship for undergraduate students is worth GBP2000 towards the cost of your annual tuition fees for the duration of your course. Students studying a three-year degree can therefore save GBP6000 from the total cost of their degree studies.
The Scholarships are awarded to students who can demonstrate excellence in at least two of the following areas:
  • Academic qualifications,
  • English Language ability,
  • Understanding of the course and motivation to study at Keele,
  • Extra-curricular or work experience
Please note that students studying the 5-year undergraduate degree in Medicine and the 4-year undergraduate degree in Pharmacy are not eligible for this award.
To apply for the KIS Scholarship you must have applied to Keele and been offered a place to study here. You must then complete a separate application form. Applications must have been received and processed before the start of academic year for which the application is made. KIS Scholarships cannot be awarded to students who have already started their degree at Keele.
The next deadline for receipt of Undergraduate Scholarship applications is 15 April 2012.
The decisions on Scholarships are made by the International Recruitment Team and their decision is final.
