Green Innovations Bootcamp for Ethiopians

Location: Climate Innovation Center (CIC) office, Kebena, behind 4kilo AAU Campus, Addis Ababa
INTRODUCTION
The Green Innovations Bootcamp will be held in Addis Ababa on July 8th-9th 2014. The goal of this two-day bootcamp is to promote green innovations & entrepreneurship, and build bridges between Finnish and Ethiopian startup communities & companies.
WHAT IT IS?
What environmental issue would you like to solve? How do you do it? Could your solution be developed into a business?
Most sustainable solutions come from the people who understand their surrounding problems and needs.  What simple solution would make your surroundings better for living?
Apply with your idea, meet up with other innovative minds, get feedback from professionals, build further business ideas and finally pitch your solution in public.
WHO CAN APPLY?
Social entrepreneurs, Students, techies, or whoever with an unchained mind and a vision to make the world a greener places to live.
PRIZE
The winners (2 individuals) will travel to Helsinki, Finland to participate in one of the biggest European startup events, SLUSH on November 18th & 19th 2014 with all travel expenses covered by Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland.
Other prizes are also available, including free membership and coaching at iceaddis & CIC.

Rift Valley Institute Field Courses 2012 - Horn of Africa, Sudan and South Sudan, Great Lakes – Apply now


Applications for the Rift Valley Institute 2012 annual field courses are open.

 [This is not a scholarship or fellowship, you are required to secure a fund for the courses by your own.]
The three courses offer an immersive, dawn-to-dusk programme of seminars, lectures and panel discussions, examining the historical, environmental and cultural features of specific subregions of Eastern and Central Africa. Taught by teams of leading international and regionally-based experts, they provide the basis for an understanding of current political and developmental challenges.

Great Lakes Course 
The Great Lakes Course covers Rwanda, Burundi and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The 2012 course focuses on the roots of conflict and challenges to institutional reform in the region. It will be held in Bujumbura, Burundi, from 7 to 13 July 2012. The application deadline is 30 April 2012.

Horn of Africa Course 
The Horn of Africa Course covers Ethiopia, Eritrea, Djibouti, Somalia, Somaliland, Puntland and Northern Kenya. The 2012 course examines why the Horn remains the world’s most crisis-ridden region. It is held in the vicinity of Mombasa, on the Kenyan coast, from 16 to 22 June 2012. The application deadline is 16 April 2012.

Sudan and South Sudan Course
The course covers all areas of Sudan and South Sudan, with a special emphasis on the borderlands between the two countries. It is held in Rumbek, in Lakes State, South Sudan, from 26 May to 1 June 2012. The application deadline is 30 March 2012.

Developing Solutions Taught Masters Scholarships

Developing Solutions Taught Masters Scholarships: A number of 100% Tuition Fee Scholarships, plus an additional 60 Tuition Fee Scholarships – normally 75%, are available for new students from Africa registering on Taught Masters programmes (including MRes and Masters by Research programmes) at The University of Nottingham in September every year.
These are in the areas related to Environment, Food, Health and Technology.
The Developing Solutions Scholarship Fund will reach out to those students who have the potential to make a real difference to the development and prosperity of their home countries.
How to apply:
In order to apply for one of these scholarships you must: 

 =be holding a conditional or unconditional offer of a place on a full time Taught Masters degree programme at the University of Nottingham by September
=be classified as an ‘overseas’ student for fee purposes 
=complete the University of Nottingham online application 
=submit your application by May
