Postdoctoral Research for Foreign Applicants at RIKEN, 2013 Japan

Eligibility:
Applicants should be non-Japanese citizens and must have a PhD in the natural sciences awarded on or after January 1, 2007, or expect to be awarded a PhD by the date of hire. Note: Those with PhDs acquired prior to December 31, 2006, may also apply if there was a lapse in their research activity due to the taking of maternity leave, childcare leave, non-research employment at a private corporation, or similar reason, and if subtracting this period of non-research activity will allow them an equivalency that meets the above requirement.Applicants must be able to start working at RIKEN within fiscal year 2013 (April 1, 2013 to March 31, 2014).

Description: RIKEN will invite as Foreign Postdoctoral Researchers foreign scientists who have demonstrated creative and innovative ideas. The intent of this program is to have these scientists contribute to the advancement of RIKEN’s research, and to lay the foundations for a truly global RIKEN that actively encourages foreign participation in its activities. By inviting researchers from other countries, RIKEN hopes to achieve a stimulating research environment that transcends national boundaries, and to thereby become a global leader of scientific endeavor.

Graduate Scholarships in Aerospace Engineering, South Korea

 We proudly announce the launch of LANL-CBNU Engineering Institute Korea, a joint venture program of our lab with the Los Alamos National Laboratory, USA. Therefore, we need some dedicated graduate students as the backbone of the program. Our projects are related, but not limited, to the application of laser ultrasound technologies and optical fiber sensors technologies to the non-destructive test and evaluation (NDT&E), and Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) of important engineering structures, such as wind turbine, space launch vehicle, nuclear power plant, and aircraft. All the projects are application based with supports from the industries or government, and have great potential to be commercialized. If you are highly motivated, we want to invite you to join our research team.
Basic Requirements:
  • Electrical, electronics, mechatronics engineering, or image processing background.
  • Prefer candidates with signal/image processing, embedded system (FPGA), real-time application, RFID, wireless sensors network, or LabVIEW skills.
  • Good TOEFL score.
Financial Supports:
  • Starting pay KRW 950,000 for master; KRW 1,150,000 for PhD (after tax deduction).
  • Increment depending on research achievement, e.g. KRW 1,650,000 for a present PhD student in the 4th year.
  • Office utensils supported, including PC, furniture, stationary, etc.

MathMods MSc Scholarships, Mathematical Modelling in Engineering, Erasmus Mundus, Europe

 Erasmus Mundus MSc Course in MathMods – Mathematical Modelling in Engineering: Theory, Numerics, Applications.
MathMods is coordinated by the University of L’Aquila in Italy and involves other four leading universities in Europe: the Autonomous University of Barcelona in Catalonia – Spain (UAB), the University of Hamburg in Germany (UHH), the Gdansk University of Technology in Poland (GUT) and the University of Nice – Sophia Antipolis in France (UNSA).
Requirements
Applicants must have obtained a recognized Bachelor’s Degree (BS, BSc, SB, etc.) – or a degree at the same level of an academic Bachelor’s Degree, for instance its equivalent from a college, university, or technical school of high standing, or 180 ECTS credits in the European system – in one of the following (or equivalent) fields:
  • Applied Mathematics
  • Mathematics with a good background in Physics
  • Physics with a good background in Mathematics
  • Engineering with a large background in Mathematics and Physics.
Students in their final year of undergraduate study may be admitted on condition that their Bachelor’s degree is awarded before the enrolment on MathMods MSc. The accomplishment of the Bachelor’s studies must be documented no later than 15 August 2011.
Language certificate
All applicants whose native language is not English are required to prove a satisfactory level of spoken and written English, certified by:
  • TOEFL: minimum 550 for PBT / 213 for CBT / 80 for IBT. You may send the TOEFL certificate simply as a photocopy or you may send it directly through ETS. Use these data when adding us as a new score recipient: Code number: 3676, Institution: University of L’Aquila.
  • IELTS: 6.0 points
  • CPE: Grades A, B, C
  • CAE: Grades A, B
  • or equivalent to the above.
The test must have been taken within the four years immediately preceding the requested semester of admission and be valid at the time of enrollment.
If applicants don’t have an English certificate by the deadline, we may also accept a temporary certificate by the Director/Coordinator of the Bachelor’s Degree study programme (or an academic in that group) stating that the applicant is so fluent in English that s/he can understand and discuss high level scientific topics. If possible, the letter should be signed either by a native English speaker academic full Professor or by an academic full Professor in English language (with full contacts included). Then, if you are selected, you will have to send an official certificate (see the list above) no later than 15 August 2011.

* The applications for Erasmus Mundus Scholarships Category A
will open on 11 October 2010 and close on 31 January 2011.
* The applications for Erasmus Mundus Scholarships Window (Western Balkans and Turkey)
will open on 11 October 2010 and close on 16-em-check 31 January 2011.
* The applications for Erasmus Mundus Scholarships Category B
will open on 11 October 2010 and close on 31 January 2011 .
Deadlines for applications without EM scholarships
* The applications for those who wish to apply for the Master’s course without an Erasmus Mundus scholarship
o will open on 11 October 2010 and close on 31 January 2011 (if you want your application to be evaluated by 28 February 2011)
o will open on 1 February 2011 and close on 15 May 2011 (if you want your application to be evaluated by 31 May 2011).
