Kent Doctoral Scholarships - University of Kent, UK.

Kent Doctoral Scholarships; In preparation for the University’s 50th anniversary in 2015, Kent has established 100 doctoral scholarships to be awarded annually from 2012.
Known as Kent’s 50th Anniversary Scholars, successful candidates will demonstrate academic excellence and outstanding research potential. Scholarships will be offered at the standard UK Research Councils’ rate.

Candidates must hold a good Honours degree (First or 2i) or a Master’s degree at merit or distinction in a relevant subject or equivalent.The scholarship competition is open to all postgraduate research applicants. UK, EU and overseas (international students) fee paying students are invited to apply.

To be eligible for these scholarships, candidates must make a formal application for postgraduate research study at the University of Kent. Applications to the University can be made online

Grants for PhD Students University of Deusto, Spain

 The Basque Institute of Competitiveness - University of Deusto (Spain) offers Grants For Doctoral Students. Scholarship / Financial aid: 12.000 Euro awards for each year doctoral fellowships
ABOUT ORKESTRA: The Basque Institute of Competitiveness (Orkestra) is a research institute located in the Basque Country (Spain), founded in 2006 and affiliated with the University of Deusto. Its mission is to engage in the so-called 3'is of the Institute: Investigation (research) of excellence, specialized Instruction, and Interaction with the relevant agents of competitiveness - local, regional and national governments, the European Union, firms, and the various intermediary organizations (technology centers, business organizations, cluster associations, etc.) - as a means of strengthening the competitiveness of the Basque economy and society in a globalized environment fully aware of the need to promote sustainable development. The Institute is comprised of approximately 30 researchers and support staff and is currently expanding and reinforcing its areas of focus.

QUALIFICATIONS: Applications are welcome from scholars of all nationalities that are currently undertaking a doctoral degree in the fields of business, energy, economics and public policy. Applicants might be enrolled in the doctoral programme in Competitiveness and Economic Development of the University of Deusto (further information: http://www.deusto.es ), or in a doctoral programme from another Basque, Spanish or international university that enables them to be integrated into the research team of the Basque Institute of Competitiveness (Orkestra) for a period of 1-3 years. The selected student will join one of the Departments of Orkestra in San Sebastian or Bilbao (Spain), where they will develop their research in line with the research lines and projects of that department.

DESCRIPTION: Orkestra - Basque Institute of Competitiveness (University of Deusto) is offering grants for:
- Students looking to undertake Ph.D. within the doctoral program offered by the Basque Institute of Competitiveness and the University of Deusto.
- Postgraduate students at other institutions whose research focus is one of the topics above mentioned and who wish to undertake a fellowship at the Basque Institute of Competitiveness, while continuing their studies.

Doctoral Student Jobs in Economics, Lund University, Sweden

This position is within the research area concerning innovation, entrepreneurship and development in regions of varying economic density. The doctoral programme formally ends with the doctoral candidate publicly defends his/her printed doctoral thesis. The holder of the position has as his/her primary obligation to successfully fulfil his/her third cycle education ending with a doctoral degree (PhD).
The position presupposes that the successful applicant is accepted as a doctoral student at the PhD-program at the Department of Economics.
Job assignments
The research will be developed in connection with the research project R-ARE, which is a long-term project focused on entrepreneurship, innovation and development in regions of varying economic density. R-ARE is placed at CIRCLE and is led by Professor Martin Andersson at CIRCLE. The project is carried out in collaboration with the Jönköping International Business School, and includes several international research partners in Europe and US. The accepted candidate will get access to extensive research databases, such as longitudinal matched employer-establishment-firm databases for Sweden that are linked to firm-level Community of Innovation Surveys as well as patent and R&D data. These databases may be used for empirical research in the dissertation work.
Eligibility/Entry Requirements
An applicant has basic eligibility for third cycle studies if he or she:
1. has been awarded a second cycle degree,
2. has completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, including at least 60 credits at second cycle level,
or     3. has acquired the equivalent knowledge in some other way, either in Sweden or abroad (Higher Education Ordinance, Chapter 7, Section 39) An applicant is eligible to be admitted to the third cycle degree programme in Economics if he or she fulfils the basic eligibility requirements, and has documented qualifications worth at least 90 credits in Economics and independent projects (degree projects) worth at least 15 credits in Economics. Basis of Assessment
Regulations concerning appointment as a doctoral student can be found in the Higher Education Ordinance Chapter 5, 1-7 §§ and SFS 1998:80. For appointment to the position, the applicant is required to be eligible for admission to the doctoral (PhD) programme in Economics. The Head of Department decides upon the admission of doctoral students. The applicants will be assessed on the basis of their prospects of meeting the requirements for a doctoral degree (PhD) in economics with a focus on the research areas of the R-ARE project. Particular emphasis will be placed upon the academic qualifications of the applicants. Previous experience with research projects, applications of empirical methods in economics and ability to cooperate with others will be considered merits. Fluent English is a requirement.

  1. Korean applicants must submit the score report from an official English test when they apply to UNIST. The above scores are a requirement for graduation, not for admission, and thus do not need to be met at the time of the application.

(U.S, Canada, U.K, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand) – When English is used as an official language in an applicant’s country, in addition to other languages, applicants are exempt from submitting a score when they apply for admission but must submit a certificate stating that they have completed all of their university courses in English for exemption.

Important Information
  • Admission shall be cancelled if a successful applicant fails to pay the registration deposit or the tuition fee to the bank designated by the university.
  • Under no circumstance shall the submitted documents be returned.
  • Applicants are granted only one admission in one school.
  • The applicant is responsible for the disadvantages (including the cancellation of admission) caused by failure to submit required documents, errors or omissions in the documents, the failure to fulfill the requirements indicated in the guidelines, unclear addresses, correspondence failures, the failure to check the list of admitted candidates, the failure to execute procedures necessary to enter the country, etc).
  • If the applicant gained admission in an illegal manner, such as forgery or alteration of documents or through translation errors on the documents, and this fact was found while at school (or after graduation), the admission shall be cancelled (or all the academic records shall be erased). Furthermore, if a criminal case is suspected, the student will be reported to the authorities in both countries in accordance with the law.
  • All the documents should be translated into either English or Korean, and be notarized (or authenticated by a public notary).
  • International students should provide their own insurance against injuries or sickness and the insurance compensation limits must be a minimum of US$10,000.
  • Note: Travelers Insurance is available in Korea.
  • UNIST will provide many chances for scholarships for international students to ensure that they have a secure life while here in Korea.
