2012 American Political Science Association (APSA) - Africa Workshop.

The American Political Science Association (APSA) and the University of Botswana have launched a call for applications for the workshop on “Local Communities and the State in Africa” with a focus on field research methods. This workshop is meant for those individuals who have completed their Ph.D. and are in the early stages of their academic career. Up to 22 Africa-based fellows will be selected. Four advanced Ph.D. students residing in the United States will also be accepted. It will be a two -week workshop from July 15 to 27 at the University of Botswana in Gaborone. The working language of the workshop is English.

This workshop will also include all the costs of participation (including travel, lodging, meals, and workshop materials) for up to 26 qualified applicants.

Eligibility-

APSA welcomes applications from both Africa -based and US-based participants who meet the following eligibility requirements:

• Africa-based applicants should be early-to-mid-career social scientists of any nationality that are currently teaching and/or working towards the completion of their PhD at a university in Africa.
• US-based applicants should be Political Science PhD students of any nationality who are currently working towards the completion of their degree at a university in the United States.
• Previous workshop participants are NOT eligible to participate in a second workshop.
